these were never displayed and were never out of the plastic except 1 i used to take pictures
these earlier talkers had pull string retraction problems from the factory some were ok some would not retract
a lot of people cut the string shorter to display as they still say the full phrase with a slight tug on the string
THese have been in storage in a factory case for over 20 years so my guess is the batteries are most likely dead
I am not going to pull the string to find out
