Originally an experimental lab rat exposed to ninja sensory training. Splinter was injected with a DNA-infused mutagen that gave him sentience, thoughts and a soul. After an unfortunate event at the lab, Splinter and four unlikely box turtles suddenly found themselves building their new home in the sewers.
